Kinuso Reservoir and Pump Station

Project Description

Big Lakes County distributes treated water from the Hamlet of Faust WTP to the Hamlet of Kinuso and community of Spruce Point Park via 200 mm and 150 mm waterlines, respectively. Aged infrastructure necessitated an upgrade to the waterlines and reservoir and pump station serving these communities.

M2 Engineering worked with the County through pre-design, detailed design and construction for the new Kinuso Reservoir and Pump Station. The facility grand opening took place in September 2018.

The new pump station includes:

• ~800 m3 concrete reservoir, inclusive of 2 cells and 1 pumpwell

• ~85 m2 pump station building

• Truckfill system, complete with heated truckfill pad

• Four distribution pumps (lead, lag, lag, lag)

• One emergency pump

• Free chlorine boosting system

• Standby generator

Project Challenges

Design of the Pump Station included review of population growth and future demands. Current construction will allow the pump station to meet 10-year demands, and future pump installations will meet 25-year demands.

High groundwater and poor soil conditions complicated design for civil and structural.
