Westlock County
Pickardville Pumphouse Upgrades
Project Description
Westlock County is a member of the Westlock Regional Water Services Commission that is responsible for the treatment and transmission of potable water. The south transmission line supplies potable water to the Hamlet of Pickardville Water Distribution Pump Station. The existing station included a 91 m3 potable water reservoir, two submersible distribution pumps and a hydro-pneumatic tank to assist in maintaining distribution pressure during low demands.
During construction of the regional water pipeline, the existing distribution system in the Pickardville pump station was not replaced or upgraded. The original distribution system components had a number of components and systems that require upgrades, either due to equipment age, deterioration, or other general issues.
This project involved detailed design to upgrade aging system components and systems that no longer meet current codes and standards, such as the galvanized piping which is not rated for contact with potable water. Commissioning of this project was completed May 2016.
