Position Overview


Construction Site Reviewer Engineer/Technologist

As a Construction Site Field Reviewer at M2 Engineering you will be responsible for various activities related to construction management. Both Engineers (APEGA) and Engineering Technologists (ASET) are eligible for this role.

In this role, you will work as a key contributor of our water and wastewater team. Your key responsibilities for this role include performing field reviews for projects in construction and assisting with construction management activities. In this position, you will work side by side our engineering teams to review general conformance of construction work, troubleshoot site problems, and help find efficient and effective solutions for our clients.

This position requires an understanding of municipal systems codes and standards. In order to be successful in this position, you must also be able to review and interpret various engineering discipline drawings and specifications, including but not limited to civil, structural, and mechanical drawings.

This position requires field engineering experience. You will liaise directly between our engineering team, contractors, and our clients. As a Construction Site Field Reviewer you will be responsible for construction contract administration. This includes coordinating contractor enquiries, request for information submissions, shop drawings, site field reviews, progress payment certificates, monthly construction meetings, and the preparation of meeting minutes and records. You will provide onsite field reviews of construction projects, and preparation / review of various reports and documents related to the execution of a construction contract. Your role as a field reviewer may require short out of town trips for a 1-2 hour field review, or longer trips that could require you do be onsite out of town for weeks at a time.

We anticipate this position to be 80%-90% field work and 10%-20% office work. This position requires driving to projects sites throughout Alberta, staying overnight in hotels, and being able to work 8-12 hours a day, when required.

As a Construction Site Field Reviewer you will use you use interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills to successfully execute projects. It is expected that you will be driven to continually improve upon the customer experience and will be enthusiastic and positive about learning new ways to better business.

In this position, you are required to responsible, self-motivated, detailed oriented, and a good communicator. Additionally, as a Field Engineer/Technologist you are required to provide excellent customer service and perform your duties in a busy environment.

Construction Contract Administration & Activities

  • Represent M2 Engineering onsite during construction projects, often being the first point of contact between field and office teams.
  • Prepare daily / weekly / monthly field review reports to document progress of construction activities, site issues, and potential design conflicts.
  • Provide full-time onsite resident engineering field review services on select projects, throughout the duration of construction.
  • Complete construction site reviews and progress reports using tablet and application for all engineering disciplines with a focus on:
    • Civil works
    • Structural works
    • Mechanical works
  • Submit daily site reports to project team
  • Conduct field engineering reviews to review if construction work generally conforms to the project drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants as necessary
  • Review if the contractor’s work generally conforms to the quality assurance and quality control requirements of the construction contract.
  • Complete daily documentation of:
    • Work completed on site
    • Workers on site
    • Equipment on site
    • Upcoming work
    • Testing procedures
    • Testing records
    • Drawing markups
    • Site photo journal
    • Site issues
  • Prepare and maintain a photographic journal of construction projects in electronic format complete with titles, dates, and descriptions on each photo.
  • Work closely with our project manager and engineering team to successfully execute construction projects.
  • Review, understand and interpret construction Contract Documents, Drawings, and Specifications.
  • Act as the liaison between our engineering office, the construction contractor, and our clients.
  • Liase with clients/Owners daily when present onsite to ensure client/Owner concerns are being heard and directed to Contractors for resolution when required
  • Review performance / results of material testing reports provided by the contractor. Coordinate the exchange of communication between the project manager, engineering team, contractor, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Review contractor progress claims, including material and quantity reports, and provide support to the project manager in preparation of progress payment certificates for construction projects.
  • Assist with shop drawing, RFIs, and change order requests reviews with our administration and engineering staff.
  • Coordinate the progress of shop drawing, RFIs, and change order requests reviews with our administration and engineering staff.
  • Attend routine construction meetings and prepare meeting records
  • Assist with the commissioning of water / wastewater infrastructure

Qualifications


The Construction Site Field Reviewer position requires candidates with the following qualifications:

  • This position is applicable to Engineers, Engineers-In-Training, and Engineering Technologists, and candidates must hold either:
    • A valid Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering. Degree in Civil or Civil-Environmental is most common.
    • A valid Diploma from an accredited technical institution in Engineering Technology.
  • Candidates with minimum 1-3 year experience in consulting engineering is preferred, preferably in water and wastewater areas of practice.
  • Candidates with no prior experience may still be considered.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
